According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t The Manchester Evening News), Manchester City have set sights on Inter Milan’s Stefano Sensi, considering him as a perfect addition to the squad.
Sensi moved from Sassuolo to Inter Milan in the summer on a loan deal and has established himself as one of the brightest central midfielders in Europe. Though he was not very influential at Sassuolo, his move to Inter has brought the best out of him.
Under Antonio Conte, playing alongside Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolo Barella, Sensi has made a huge difference in the manager’s change of game plans. The 24-year-old has been the most exciting player of all newcomers into the squad.
Inter Milan are fighting for the top spot in Serie A with Juventus, and Sensi’s form has been vital for the Nerazzurri. In 7 games so far, he has scored 3 and provided 4 assists in the league. At Sassuolo last season, Sensi was deployed more as a defensive midfielder where he had to sit back, and he rarely made major contributions.
After Antonio Conte took over the reins, succeeding Luciano Spalletti, the midfielder has wreaked havoc from the left and has put in match-winning performances. He has been the playmaker for Conte’s team so far but injuries have put him out for while and in that period, Inter’s midfield seemed to be knocked off confidence.
Sensi’s performances have caught the eyes of several top European clubs and Manchester City are considering luring him to the Etihad Stadium despite knowing that Inter are trying to make his move permanent.
Manchester City, on the other hand, have two central midfielders in Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden, and Sensi’s addition would definitely improve their squad depth. With David Silva’s contract coming to an end this summer, Pep Guardiola could make use of Sensi’s qualities.
Sensi, just like his compatriot Jorginho, possesses all the qualities to succeed in England’s top-flight. He can play with ease in the middle and has enjoyed 87.3% passing accuracy in Serie A this season. The Italian has averaged 2.3 shots and 1.9 key passes as well, according to Whoscored.
The Italian had displayed solid performances this season before he picked up an injury that saw him out of the game for some days. His return to Inter’s squad has been a boost for Conte, who is trying to dismantle the Juventus’ empire he helped build.
Manchester City’s midfield looked below par in their recent 3-1 loss to Liverpool, so Pep Guardiola should reconstruct the main area by bringing in Sensi, who would just help the manager with a different dimension to his game plan.
City must find a way to lure the Italian before Inter accepts terms with his parent club to sign him permanently.
