Why Scott McTominay is better than Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson

Scott McTominay has transformed to become a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Manchester United this season. Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson has not featured as a key player for Liverpool due to the depth in Liverpool’s midfield. Though not consistent, the Englishman has had his fair share of game time in the Premier League.

According to Jamie O’ Hara, while speaking to talkSPORT (h/t daily mail), said he believed that Scott McTominay would easily get into the Liverpool team at the expense of their Champions League-winning captain Jordan Henderson. O’ Hara has his regards for the young Scottish talent.

With the departure of Ander Herrera and the absence of Paul Pogba, McTominay has stepped up to be consistent for Manchester United despite their dull season. At the same time, Henderson may not be Klopp’s first choice.

Now let’s analyse both the midfielders’ stats and take a look at who fares better for their respective teams.

Game Time

According to Whoscored, McTominay has played in all 11 games in the Premier League, one more than Henderson. In 10 games, Henderson has played for only 663 minutes and McTominay has played 977 minutes.

The young lad has the potential to play the whole time without needing to be substituted.

Goals and assists

As midfielders, they may not have much goalscoring opportunities. While McTominay has two goals to his name, Henderson has scored only once in the league.

Not to be forgotten, the 22-year-old Scot’s wonderful goal against Arsenal earned them a draw and Henderson’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur paved the way for Liverpool’s comeback win them.

Shots

McTominay’s shots on goal are better when compared to the Englishman, who has less than 1 per game compared to McTominay’s 1.7 per game.

Jordan Henderson

Pass Success

Comparing their pass success, McTominay’s is higher up the ranks where he has 79.1% accuracy to Henderson’s 77.2%.

Dribbles Completed

McTominay has completed an average of 1.4 dribbles in 977 minutes, whereas Henderson has 0.4 dribbles in just 667 minutes. On an average basis, McTominay has come out on top as the better dribbler.

Aerial Duels and Interceptions

With an average of 1.9 aerial duels won, McTominay seems to have bettered Henderson’s 0.9. Henderson has an average of 1.1 interceptions per game, which is not too less than McTominay’s 1.3 per game.

Scott McTominay

Apart from statistics, both have grown to be important players for their team. Henderson has seen a lot of game time leading Liverpool to many successful occasions and McTominay is continuing to make a name for himself with his qualities.

Verdict

With an overall average of 7.07, McTominay has made a better impact for the Red Devil’s than Henderson’s 6.80. McTominay seems to have outplayed Henderson in almost every aspect of the game in the Premier League this season.

It is clear that McTominay looks better when compared to Henderson statistically, but the Liverpool skipper’s experience has been of surplus to Klopp’s men and he will not be forgotten for leading his troops to win the Champions League last season.
