Norwich signing this 25-year-old star in January would add a different dimension to the attack – Farke must get him

Why Norwich City should go all out to sign Georgios Masouras in January

Back in March, the Eastern Daily Press had claimed Norwich City were keeping tabs on Olympiakos attacker Georgios Masouras ahead of the summer transfer window. In the end, the Canaries didn’t make a concrete offer to sign the player from the Greek club.

Georgios Masouras, 25, has only been with Olympiakos since January but his form had impressed Norwich City. In the 10 matches he played with Olympiakos last season, the winger netted four goals. He is under contract at Olympiakos until June 2022.

With the Greek winger hitting the ground running in the new Super Liga campaign, Norwich City must reignite their interest in him when the January transfer window commences.

Norwich have a track record of signing unknown quantities that turn out to be stars. The most glaring example is Teemu Pukki, who has adapted to the Premier League like a duck to water after being a revelation in the Championship last season.

Pukki has scored six goals in eight games, netting in the famous 3-2 victory over champions Manchester City last month. However, the Finn has lacked service most often this season.

Daniel Farke did sign some quality players over the summer, including a couple of exciting attackers but none of them has truly made an impact at Carrow Road.

The Canaries have to improve if they are to avoid relegation at the first time of asking. Farke, who has earned a reputation for developing young talents, should bolster his attack with the signing of Georgios Masouras.

A 25-year-old wide-man who can play on either side or as a secondary striker, Masouras has the ability to score goals and pick out passes with both feet.

A technically gifted creative player, he has an excellent sense of positioning, which allows him to be at the right place at the right time. The Greek has a decent turn of pace and can bamboozle his opponents with his trickery and silky dribbling skills.

The addition of Masouras will make Norwich much more versatile in the attack. The Canaries have some exciting attackers in their squad but the Olympiakos man could bring a new element to their attack with his ability to act either as an inverted winger or as a traditional second striker.

Verdict

Masouras is under contract at Olympiakos until June 2022, so Norwich will have to fork out a lot of money to tempt the Greek giants into selling their star forward in January.
