Despite Scholes’ suggestion, here’s why Man United would be better off without this Arsenal star

Why Manchester United should not buy Mesut Ozil

According to Daily Mail, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has identified Mesut Ozil as the man to solve the Red Devils’ lack of creativity conundrum after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side flattered to deceive in their 1-0 away win against Partizan. However, seeing the stats, it looks like it would be a disastrous deal not only for Manchester United but also for the German midfielder.

Ozil has been limited to just one Premier League appearance this season and played just 70 minutes in that game. He also played a Carabao Cup game last month, which was his last appearance for the Gunners.

Ozil has fallen behind Matteo Guendouzi, Dani Ceballos, Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and a couple of academy youngsters in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil’s stats in Emery’s first season are almost similar to that of Arsene Wenger’s last. Even though he was struggling to find a regular place under the Spaniard last season, he featured in 24 league games and got 1732 minutes of game time.

He scored five goals and provided two assists in that period. Meanwhile, he scored four goals and provided eight assists in Wenger’s last season.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have failed to create chances this season. The Red Devils fans were filled with joy when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised to bring back attacking football at Old Trafford, a tradition under Sir Alex Ferguson.

United have found the back of the net just 13 times in the nine Premier League games, with four coming against Chelsea in their league opener.

It is clear that the lack of creating chances is the main reason for their poor run, which makes United desperate for a creative midfielder. However, Solskjaer shouldn’t make a move out of desperation. Solskjaer is making a squad for the future and a short-term option as stated by Scholes will not be a healthy move.

It would be a bad move for Ozil too as the German needs more game time and even if he gets some of it at Old Trafford, he will never be preffered as their first choice midfielder in the long run.
