Why Manchester United Should Avoid Doing Business With Fierce Rivals Liverpool Over This Defender

Share

One of the biggest rivalries in world football between two of the most successful clubs in England has made it hard for any player to play for both clubs for a decade now. Jurgen Klopp, the new manager at Anfield, has been looking at a number of star players to add to his squad and the left-back position is one that he will have an eye on in the next couple of transfer windows. This has seen the Reds linked with a move for out-of-favor Manchester United star Luke Shaw. The English international has not been able to keep himself fit under the new manager and has been criticized for his lack of commitment. He has not been able to show any form in the few chances he got and has been linked with a move away from the club in January.

There are a number of teams in Europe who would love to take him to their club but Merseyside rivals Liverpool are reportedly interested in his signature. The 21-year old joined Old Trafford from the St Mary’s as a teenager but has just not been able to cement his place in the starting lineup, picking up a number of injuries in these two years. However, he has shown glimpses of his potential every now and then, making Liverpool interested in his signature. But should Mourinho sell him in the next couple of transfer windows?

At his age, Luke Shaw has his whole career in front of him and if he is being frozen out from the first team, it will not take long for him to rebel and demand a move away from the club. Shaw would like to keep himself fit for a long time and get a consistent run of games in the top flight to get back to his best and Mourinho should keep hold of him if only if he can provide a regular game time to the 21-year-old this season.

Having made 11 appearances in all competitions this season for the Red Devils, Shaw has just one assist to his name and Jose Mourinho will demand more from his full-back. At the back, the English defender is more than capable of taking care of his flank and though his height is a disadvantage, he more than makes it up with his ability to stay ahead of the game.

The likes of Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo are the other options for the manager at the back while Daley Blind can also play as a left-back when first choice center backs return from injury. The amount of the depth in the squad will mean that Shaw will get back into the first team only if his replacement fails to impress and that is a gamble he cannot afford to take. Though Darmian is not

Though Darmian is not the first choice, Rojo and Blind are decent options at left-back, but Shaw has his own level. The manager will surely spend on a few additions in the transfer window but if Shaw is fit, the manager will have have to worry about his spot as the 21-year-old is easily the best amongst the available lads. Shaw surely had his issues regarding the fitness, but when fit, he is one of the best in the country, so there is no way United should sell Shaw – to anyone.
