Why Manchester City’s world-class Mourinho reject deserves his £260,000-a-week contract

Does Kevin De Bruyne Deserve The New £260,000-A-Week Contract?

Kevin De Bruyne has easily been one of Manchester City’s outstanding performers this season. In a club where every player is out-performing the other, it can be tough to shine through and yet the Belgian has been one of their brightest sparks so far. Be it his incisive runs in the final third or his creativity, the 26-year-old has broken several barriers in the competition so far this season. In fact, he was the fastest midfielder to be involved in 50 goals for his club and that is quite a testament to his skills. A player who was rejected by Mourinho while at Chelsea, he has proven his former manager wrong and how!

To reward his generous contributions, City are understood to be on the verge of handing him a new contract, which could potentially see him earn a staggering £260,000-a-week. It is quite a huge amount but given De Bruyne’s consistency and impact, it is a small price to pay. Also, the cash-rich club have previously had no qualms about shelling out major sums of money and if it helps them retain a player who is arguably one of the best in the world right now, then so be it.

De Bruyne has only gone from strength-to-strength under Pep Guardiola’s watchful eyes and he seems to be showing no signs of decline. In 29 appearances across competitions for Manchester City this season, the midfielder has provided a whopping 7 goals and 13 assists. Until now, he has won 7 Man of The Match awards, which is quite a feat considering how many brilliant players the Sky Blues have at their disposal.

Kevin De Bruyne

There is no doubt that several clubs will start circling around for De Bruyne by the end of the season. Given how he has been such an essential piece of City’s creativity and attack, it becomes imperative for the club to tie him down to a mouth-watering new contract and fend off potential interest. Without De Bruyne, the Cityzens may not have been as strong and if they are to go on and win the league, Guardiola will need the Belgian attacker by his side.

In a world where astronomical price tags dictate the value of a player more than his performances on the field, tying De Bruyne down to a £260,000-a-week contract seems quite fair enough. He is a valuable aspect of the team with a lot to offer and it is tough to come across such consistent and reliable players. So there is no doubt that De Bruyne has earned his new contract at Manchester City.
