According to ESPN, Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has been linked with a move to Serie A outfit AC Milan. The Ivorian centre-back is unsettled due to his lack of game time under Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach criticised the 24-year-old after his poor performance in the defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion. He was then substituted early on against Newcastle United and hasn’t played a game since. (ESPN)
The Red Devils paid £30million to lure the centre-back from Villareal and after making a bright start, he has now become one of the fringe members in the squad. This is largely due to Bailly’s inconsistent performances and persistent injury problems.
Bailly has made just three starts this season and has been out injured too often. He has also shown a number of frailties at the back in the last few months. The Ivorian’s judgement has been poor and strikers often tend to get the better of him.
Jose Mourinho was also in the market for a new central defender in the summer. Leicester City’s Harry Maguire and Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld were the manager’s prime targets but he was unable to bring them in.
The Red Devils have been in very poor form this term and have already lost considerable pace in the fight for the title. Mourinho’s men are currently at 7th place and have conceded a total of 18 goals this season. Their backline just hasn’t looked the same this year.
The United coach should definitely aim to bring in another defender in January, and offloading Bailly would help the club recoup some of the funds they spent to engineer his transfer. Milan poses an ideal option for Manchester United.

Bailly has failed to prove himself in the league and though many may argue the defender wasn’t given enough time, it’s Jose Mourinho who is quickly running down the clock at the moment.
The manager definitely needs to rack up a couple of good results as the Red Devils prepare for a hectic week that sees them face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next.
Given how things are going, Man United must offload Eric Bailly when the chance arises.
