Marko Grujic was signed by Liverpool for £5.1m in January 2016. But he hasn’t been used as a regular squad player since. Days after completing the move, the Reds sent him on loan to Red Star Belgrade, a club from where he initially made the move from.
He came back in the summer of 2016 and played a few games for the Merseysiders during the 2016/17 and in early parts of the 2017/18 season. Eventually, the 22-year-old was sent on loan to Cardiff City in January 2018, before making a season-long move to Hertha Berlin last summer.
Now as per the report in Sun, Grujic has revealed that he would choose to stay in Berlin rather than coming back to Liverpool at the end of this season. He has been playing regularly in the Bundesliga and wouldn’t mind if Hertha made a permanent offer.
Here’s why Liverpool should oblige and offload the Serbian in the summer transfer window:
Currently, the Reds have enough options in central midfield and they can afford to sell Grujic.
With James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain in the squad, it would be difficult for the Serbian to get regular playing time at Anfield.
Furthermore, Grujic has starred at Hertha Berlin this season, featuring 17 times in the league, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
His tackles and interceptions (2.2 and 1.5 per game respectively) numbers are insane, to say the least. He has won aerial duels at an average of 3.5 per game, hence, his dominance in the midfield is multi-dimensional. (Stats – whoscored.com)

All in all, Grujic leaving Liverpool on a permanent basis makes sense from the viewpoint of all parties. He has been doing well at Hertha and should be allowed to settle there for seasons to come.
