Why Liverpool Cannot Afford To Lose Out On This £12.7m-rated Key First Team Player Amidst Transfer Interests

Why Liverpool Cannot Afford To Lose Emre Can This Summer

Liverpool have made an embarrassing start to their summer transfer window as they have had to drop interest in their top transfer target for the next season. Apart from the possible new arrivals, it can be said that every existing player who is held on to is more or less a new signing as well. One player whose future at the club is in doubt is German midfielder Emre Can.

Having joined Liverpool three years ago under Brendan Rodgers, Can has become an integral part of the squad at the club under current manager Jurgen Klopp and he was easily one of the best players for the club late last season, helping them to surge into a place in the Champions League next season.

His contract with Liverpool will come to an end after the end of next season and the Reds are yet to agree on a new deal with the midfielder. It is understood that Liverpool are not ready to meet his wage demands but reports suggest that they are confident of keeping him for the long-term.

However, his performances have attracted interest from some of the top clubs as Italian champions Juventus are now closely monitoring his situation for a move this summer.

One of the most versatile players in the Liverpool squad at the moment, the £12.75m rated (transfermarkt.co.uk) German is expected to play as a CDM next season with Jordan Henderson the only other option for Klopp in this position. They are looking at Naby Keita to add to their squad but that does not give Liverpool a leverage to let Can leave.

At 23, Can made 40 appearances across all competitions last season, picking up 5 goals and 3 assists to his name. A strong and athletic midfielder, with decent dribbling abilities, Can is still learning the art of creating chances from a deeper role but he is already adept at making late runs into the box to add a number in the box when his side attacks the opponent.

At his age, he is one of the most assured players in his position and Liverpool are looking for another player of his calibre to add mettle to the midfield. If they lose Can at this point in time, Liverpool will be pushed into the transfer market in search of another CDM and they might have to pay over the odds to secure the services of a player capable of replacing Can.

Can is definitely one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and is a player that belongs at the highest stage. He is also making strides in the national team and surely, losing him will be a huge blow for Liverpool.
