Why Jamie Hamilton would be a good signing for Everton’s future

According to Team Talk (h/t The Sun), Everton are in pole position to sign Hamilton Academical prodigy Jamie Hamilton.

The report suggests that the Toffees have been scouting the teenager in recent weeks as Carlo Ancelotti looks to strengthen his side’s backline.

Premier League clubs Wolves, Burnley, Brighton, and Aston Villa are also interested in the defender (h/t The sun) and it would not be easy to sign him.

Hamilton, 17, has made eleven appearances for the Scottish outfit this season after getting to promoted from the club’s youth ranks back in July.

He has captained Scotland’s U17 side earlier and extended his contract with the club last November that would keep him at the Core Physio Hamilton Stadium until 2022.

Meanwhile, Everton have managed to put aside the memories of their bad start to the season under sacked manager Marco Silva. They skyrocketed close to the top half of the table under Duncan Ferguson before Ancelotti took over.

The Toffees have got the Italian’s time off to a great start after beating Burnley and Newcastle United but couldn’t prevent themselves from being beaten by the mighty Liverpool, who knocked them out of the FA cup. With the tougher test coming in no time, the manager has to address several issues with his players.

Nonetheless, their defensive unit have been shaky throughout the season and Ancelotti must prioritize strengthening this area.

Youngster Mason Holgate has been impressive for the side this season, whereas the same cannot be said of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane.

Keane and Mina have had issues concerning their pace and the opponents have taken advantage of this in most of the games so far.

The Goodison Park club have conceded 24 goals in 21 games this term and with very few options in the backline, things could get worse if the problem is not attended to at the earliest.

Ancelotti has only three centre-backs available at his disposal and it is clear that the Toffees need to invest in a defender this which could help them for the rest of the campaign.

In that case, Jamie Hamilton would be a good signing for the club and the fact that he is just 17 means that he must develop himself from the club’s youth teams.

The Scotland U19 international rose to fame with his performance last season for the nation’s U17 side and in the UEFA Youth Cup for his club. He has quickly transformed into a first-team player for the Accies and is taking great strides in his career.

Hamilton has continued to impress his coaching staffs and Everton are seeing him as one for the future, according to Daily Mail. If Ancelotti manages to lure him to England, the highly-rated defender could be able to develop his career under the tutelage of the Italian.

Verdict

The interest from various teams shown on Hamilton speaks volumes of his potential. Though he may not get his chances easily, he could go on to lead the Toffees’ defence in the future.

Signing Hamilton at the earliest would be a right step in their direction by Everton and the must secure his services ahead of his other admirers in the country.
