Why Domingos Quina Should Avoid PSG Interest And Stay Put At West Ham

As per reports from the Mirror, French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain have made a shock swoop for West Ham United wonder kid Domingos Quina. The report claims that a team of personnel from the French club have met with the 17-year old’s family in order to persuade the starlet to swap the Hammers for Les Parisiens.

Quina was signed by the Hammers last summer, after spells with the youth academies at Benfica and Chelsea. He has been tipped for a bright future. However, with PSG lurking, there is a good chance that he will be tempted to move to the French club.

But is it the right move for the Portuguese midfielder at this time in his career? The answer would be a no.

The 17-year old Quina has shown great potential in his fledgeling career so far. Having been a part of the Portugal U-17 national team that won the UEFA U-17 European Championships last summer, he has continued to make rapid progress in his development, establishing himself as a regular for the Seleccao’s U-19 side, despite being quite younger than the rest of his teammates.

Quina made his debut for the West Ham senior team, in July 2016, in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying rounds against Romanian club NK Domzale, playing few minutes in both the legs. He played an important role for the Hammers’ reserve team last season making 13 appearances in the Premier League 2, scoring once and assisting one more.

The Portuguese youth international may not have made his Premier League debut yet, but made it to the West Ham bench in the English top-flight on a total of 13 occasions and once more in the FA Cup clash against Manchester City.

The 17-year old is a versatile midfielder who can play as a No.10 or as a classic No.8 and has been used in a holding midfield position for the reserves as well. Someone who can score goals from midfield areas, and enjoys getting on the ball and running forward with it, he has shown great potential and promise already. He has displayed a tremendous amount of self-belief and confidence as well.

While his innate abilities are strong without a doubt, a major reason for his rapid progress and development over the past year has to be the involvement with the U-23s and the senior team at West Ham. The fact that he has made the bench for Slaven Bilic’s side on a number of occasions already highlights the fact that he has already forced himself into the thoughts of the manager and is likely to be integrated into the first-team sooner than later.

It is something that he will not be guaranteed at Paris Saint-Germain. The number of stars that the club has and with the amount of investment that they pump into the team every summer, it is unlikely that Quina will be able to break into the first team anytime soon, considering the plethora of talents they have in the attacking midfield areas.

So, it is a no-brainer really, that the 17-year old will be much better served staying put at the London Stadium as he will be given more exposure with the first-team, which will aid his development.
