Why Hull City should offer Kamil Grosicki a new deal

According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki has revealed that he wants to commit his future at the KCOM Stadium with a new two-year deal.

The 31-year-old Polish international has been an influential figure for the Tigers in the Championship for a number of years but he is in the final year of his current contract.

Hull City have the option to extend his stay by a further 12 months, a decision which they will need to take before March, but the free-scoring winger has made it clear that he wants assurances over his long-term future with a new two-year deal.

As per the report, Grosicki’s contract situation in East Yorkshire has put some of the Turkish clubs on red alert, with Trabzonspor keen to open talks with the  31-year-old during next month’s international break.

The Pole has been one of the brightest sparks in what has otherwise been a mediocre start to the campaign for the Tigers under new manager Grant McCann.

The veteran has already racked up 3 goals and an assist in 8 league appearances, with each of those strikes coming in the last three appearances against Millwall, Wigan Athletic and Luton Town.

Hull City, though, are currently placed 14th in the standings, way below the playoff places, having won only two of their first eight games thus far and McCann will be hoping for Grosicki to continue his rich vein of form when the Tigers play host to Cardiff City on Saturday.

Grosicki rose to prominence with Polish clubs Pogon Szczecin, Legia Warsaw and Jagiellonia Bialystok and had successful stints at Sivasspor in Turkey and Rennes in France before moving to Hull City, who were then in the Premier League in January 2017.

The 31-year-old couldn’t help the Tigers beat the drop in the Premier League but he has established himself as a key contributor with goals and assists in the Championship over the past couple of campaigns.

Grosicki boasts of an impressive tally of 22 goals and 23 assists in 103 appearances for Hull City in all competitions, which clearly highlights the kind of impact he has made at the KCOM Stadium.

However, the Tigers now have a big decision to make on his future and they need to do it as soon as possible. It would be a shame if they lose him on a free transfer next summer and with clubs in Turkey circling around like sharks, Hull City also face the risk of losing him midway through the campaign in January, which, in itself, would be a massive blow.

To put things into perspective, it should be a no-brainer for the TIgers to secure Grosicki’s long-term future, especially when the 31-year-old has himself stated that he wants to put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

The 70-cap Polish international has been one of the best performers at the club over the past two seasons and he is currently one of the most high-profile players in their ranks.

Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen are probably the two gems that the Tigers have right now and losing either of them would be disastrous, given that both the players have shouldered the bulk of the scoring and assisting responsibilities in the recent campaigns.

However, one reason that might pose a dilemma to the club is that Grosicki is currently one of the highest earners, having joined the Tigers when they were in the Premier League. Hence, if Hull are looking to cut their cloth accordingly then they should probably consider a replacement for the Pole.

To that end, though, the benefits of offering him a new deal apparently overshadow the financial side of things and the Tigers should move at the earliest to secure his long-term future, as a like-for-like replacement would cost them a fortune in the market.
