According to a report Team Talk (h/t The Sun), Chelsea are interested in signing FC Metz’ striker Habibou Diallo.
Leicester City and Tottenham are also interested in landing the striker, according to the Daily Mail. The three Premier League clubs are set to battle each other for the signing of the Senegalese forward.
Diallo is valued around £10m and his signing would be a top priority in the January transfer window for the three teams.
A product of the FC Metz youth system, Diallo came to prominence with his performance for Metz in Ligue 2. His 26 goals in 37 games in Ligue 2 helped Metz get promoted to top-flight of French football this season.
The forward has continued from where he left last season and has already notched up 8 goals in 13 games so far.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have got back on track after they started the season on a dull note. They are now sitting comfortably in 3rd position in the league. Riding on the success of their youngsters, Chelsea are back to winning ways in the Premier League.
The Blues, however, have only one natural left-winger in Callum Hudson-Odoi. Signing Habibou Diallo would just be perfect for Frank Lampard to rotate his squad, which can overcome exhaustion caused by their presence in various competitions.
Habibou Diallo can perfectly fit in at Chelsea and Lampard can see some sort of competition within the team in his presence.
Though Diallo has played as a centre-forward for Metz, he can operate on the left side of the field perfectly and his versatility can allow the Blues manager to deploy him on any side of the attack.
According to Whoscored, Diallo has averaged 3.2 shots per game and his pass success rate is 69.8%. With an overall rating of 7.08, Diallo seems to be more than just decent.
Diallo can grow into a completely lethal attacker by nurturing himself under the presence of Frank Lampard and can offer more than just an attacking option. He is also known to have played the left-midfield role for his side.
His presence could also be beneficial to Chelsea’s young striker Tammy Abraham, who has been the first-choice since coming back from loan. Lampard seems to be fully dependent on the Englishman for goals and Diallo could just take off the pressure from him by playing supportive roles.
Frank Lampard must beat off competition in the Premier League to secure his services and Diallo can offer lot more than just a forward. Despite his fine form, just like Christian Pulisic, Diallo could also take his time to make an impact in the English top-flight.
But signing him without second thoughts can guarantee the Blues a lot more goals, which is required to emerge as champions.
