Why Crystal Palace should win the race for Glen Kamara’s signature

According to a report from Daily Mail, Rangers star Glen Kamara has emerged as a target for English Premier League duo Brighton and Crystal Palace.

The Finland international, 23, joined Rangers from Dundee in January. He has done well since arriving at the Ibrox, although the midfielder has been in and out of the Ibrox side this season, with competition from players such as Steven Davis, Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo, Greg Stewart, Andy King and Scott Arfield in the middle of the park.

Glen Kamara’s impressive form for Steven Gerrard’s side hasn’t gone unnoticed, with both Crystal Palace and Brighton now vying for his signature. He was outstanding in Rangers’ 1-1 Europa League draw with FC Porto in midweek, catching the eye with his composure in possession and distribution skills.

The report adds that Kamara, who made his debut for Arsenal against Sheffield Wednesday as a 19-year-old, is also being followed by Burnley and Aston Villa. Nevertheless, it is Crystal Palace who should win the race for the 23-year-old’s signature in January.

Having picked up 14 points in nine games, Roy Hodgson could do well with some reinforcements in January ahead of the second half of this season.

Crystal Palace are lacking quality and depth in the engine room and barring Luka Milivojevic, none of the midfielders has consistently delivered the goods this season. Hence, the Eagles would be right in making a move for Kamara.

Kamara is a versatile player who can play in any position across the midfield. He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but is more than capable of playing in either of the central midfield positions, be it in a double pivot or a three-man midfield.

In terms of his attributes, the Finn is good at threading passes in behind the opposition and combining with teammates in the engine room. The former Arsenal man’s technical abilities combined with his strength, stamina, drive and determination would make him a perfect fit for Hodgson’s system.

Kamara is also physically strong to impose himself in the midfield, enabling him to win aerial duels and be a genuine threat from set-pieces. Moreover, he can make crucial interceptions for his team and never hesitates to stick his foot out to stop his opponent from advancing.

Verdict

Palace currently have a lot of options in central midfield but the Rangers ace is more than capable of competing for a place in the first-team, whilst also adding valuable depth in a key area of the pitch for Hodgson.

All in all, we can say that Kamara would be a good addition to the Palace squad if they manage to sign him in January.
