Crystal Palace Opinion – Why Crystal Palace should beat Brighton for Mohamed Diame

According to a report in Daily Star, Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame’s contract situation has led to interests coming from several clubs across Europe.

Turkish giants Besiktas and Galatasaray are tracking the player, while clubs in Spain and Italy are also keeping a close eye on him. (h/t Daily Star)

The 31-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this season and he hasn’t signed an extension yet, meaning he is on course to become a free agent once this season gets over. (h/t Daily Star)

Mohamed Diame

As per the report, Premier League sides and rivals Brighton and Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the Magpies midfielder.

If it comes to the two English clubs vying for this deal, here’s why Palace should beat their local rivals in signature of Mohamed Diame:

Diame would add a different dimension

Roy Hodgson has preferred to play the 4-3-3 formation with three narrow and hard-working midfielders, two wingers and a target man striker. Their three central players of the first choice are – Luka Milivojevic, Jeff Schlupp and James McArthur.

However, other than that, the Eagles do not have many options. Cheikhou Kouyate was brought from West Ham but he hasn’t been able to make a positive impact.

Hence, to add a bit more physical dimension to the midfield, it is necessary from the club’s viewpoint that they do everything to sign a midfielder of Mohamed Diame’s pedigree and quality.

The Newcastle man can either play in Milivojevic’s defensive midfield role, or operate as one of the central midfielders, who can drive with the ball to support the attacks and help out the defence simultaneously, when required.

Conclusion

All in all, Diame to Crystal Palace looks like an ideal move for both parties. Under Hodgson, the 31-year-old could have an opportunity to further improve his game and end his footballing career on a higher note.
