The recently concluded Premier League season was one to forget for Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard started the campaign in blistering form, scoring hat-tricks and headers galore. However, he was soon caught out for being one-dimensional as teams began capitalizing on his strengths.
During the second half of the season, Morata was largely kept quiet which resulted in Chelsea‘s failure to qualify for the Champions League. With the pressure on Morata and reports linking him to a move back to Juventus, the question arises – does a swap deal with Gonzalo Higuain make sense?
With Higuain at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have a striker in the Drogba/Costa mould. He is a powerhouse who can bully defenders and also hold up play excellently. Higuain’s biggest strength is his finishing ability and with Chelsea having players likes Hazard and Willian for support, the service is definitely going to be first-class.
Higuain, however, has not played in the Premier League and his record against English clubs is good but not great. He should step up his game for a couple of years if he wants to enjoy success at Stamford Bridge.
Morata, on the other hand, will be back to familiar territory with Juventus. He enjoyed a successful campaign with them, winning the Scudetto and also making it to the Champions League final. His form was one of the primary reasons Real Madrid chose to sign him.
That said, Morata’s approach to the game is different and he seems to be well-suited to the rigours of Italian football. Premier League teams like to defend deep and stay close to the striker which makes it harder for a player like Morata to succeed.
Linking up with his old teammates will certainly provide Morata with the boost of confidence he desperately needs to find the back of the net again.

With that in mind, Higuain could spend his final prime years in England while striving to prove that he has the class to excel in three different leagues. If the move does go through, it will be an exciting time for Chelsea supporters and allow a new lease of life for two brilliant strikers of our times.
