Why Celtic shouldn’t sell Kieran Tierney amidst interest from Everton

There seems to be nothing that can stop Celtic at the moment. The Scottish giants lifted their second straight league title under Brendan Rodgers and they are undoubtedly the new kings of Scottish football.

Celtic finished the previous campaign atop the Scottish Premiership table with 82 points. The club are playing an attractive and exciting brand of football under the former Liverpool manager. Everything seems to be running smoothly for the Scottish Champions as they prepare for the new campaign ahead.

However, following the team’s excellent performances, Everton are tracking Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney. The club are reportedly interested in signing the 21-year-old who has shone for the club over the last two years.

New manager Marco Silva and Everton’s director of football Marcel Brands must bolster the squad ahead of the new campaign, and the Scottish left-back could be a great addition for them.

After all, Everton are in dire need of a new left-back with club legend Leighton Baines turning 34 this year. The Merseyside club are reportedly lining up a £25million bid for the much sought-after defender. But should Celtic sell one of their most talented players in the squad?

Tierney is one the brightest left-backs in Europe. In fact, he is one of the biggest prospects in the Scottish Premier League with numerous accolades to his name. Tierney was also occasionally deployed as the captain last season after he rose to prominence under Rodgers.

The 21-year-old played 30 games in the Scottish Premiership last season, scoring 3 goals in the process. He also impressed during their Champions League and Europa League matches as well.

The youngster is not one to shy away from a challenge, averaging 2 tackles and 2.7 interceptions per game last season. He’s an exceptional defender who is blessed with the ability to play as a centre-back or even as a right-back if needed. Tierney also averaged 2.8 clearances in the league.

Those are exceptional statistics for a player who is far from being the finished product. At the age of 21, Tierney has shown massive potential and maturity as a defender. The player seems to be on an upward trajectory, and with his current qualities, there is no denying that he will go down as a modern-day Celtic legend.

Hence, Celtic must not even consider selling Tierney, who is easily one of their best players. What could be Everton’s gain, will end up being Celtic’s pain.
