Why Cardiff boss Warnock must reunite with this Scottish powerhouse by spending £12m

According to a report by Wales Online, Cardiff City are interested in a summer swoop for West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass. The Hammers have a new manager on board in the form of Manuel Pellegrini, who is expected to provide Snodgrass with a fresh chance at the Olympic Stadium. But despite that, the midfielder might choose to leave the East London outfit.

The 30-year-old spent the previous season on loan with Championship outfit Aston Villa. Steve Bruce’s men were one of the top contenders for promotion to the top-flight, meaning newly-promoted Cardiff City have a fair idea of what Snodgrass is capable of, having seen him from close quarters during the 2017/18 campaign. The report goes on to claim that the former Leeds United player is valued at £12m.

Over the course of the recently concluded season, Snodgrass scored a total of 7 goals and provided 14 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions. He also picked up a whopping seven Man of The Match awards and that speaks volumes of the way he had impacted Villa’s performances.

Their attempts at promotion may have failed but Snodgrass’ displays appear to have attracted a fair amount of attention.

Straight off the bat, the Scotsman is an incredibly versatile player. He can play in a variety of attacking positions and in addition to that, his skills are as sharp as ever.

Snodgrass also boasts of ample experience and that could prove to be vital to a side like Cardiff City as they are expected to focus heavily on retaining their Premier League status next season.

Interestingly enough, Warnock and Snodgrass have a bit of history of their own. The duo briefly worked together at Leeds but eventually, the player moved to Norwich City.

While his stint at West Ham might not have yielded fruitful results so far, suffice to say that he performed in an incredible manner for Aston Villa last season. Is that reason enough for Cardiff to shell out the required fee of £12million?

As far as Cardiff are concerned, the return to the top-flight will be anything but a cakewalk and in that case, a player like Snodgrass could come in handy. Not only is he versatile and skillful but he also boasts of enough experience to truly make a difference.

Also, the price tag is a decent amount to pay for someone of Snodgrass’ calibre. Hence, it seems like a good move for Cardiff on several fronts and perhaps Warnock should make an attempt to reunite with the Scottish powerhouse.
