Why Brighton should sign Sander Berge in January

Brighton and Hove Albion have put up some impressive performances since the beginning of the new season.

One player who has stood out is new signing Leandro Trossard from Genk, who is currently injured. However, he wasn’t the only player the club were after in the summer; they were also interested in signing his team-mate from the Belgian side, Sander Berge.

Berge started his career in the Norwegian third-tier with local club Asker before earning a move to Valerenga in the Norwegian top-flight. His performances earned him a move to Genk, who have spotted some of Europe’s best talents in recent years.

Berge is already a Norwegian international with 16 appearances for his country and, at 21, has a long future ahead of him. He is a defensive midfielder and was one of the many impressive players for the Belgian side in recent years after his move in January 2017.

Berge is a very technically gifted player, which is important in Potter’s system and has the range of passing to help dictate the tempo of the game. He also has the vision to play balls from deep into the path of the forward players.

To add to that, he’s also got a very mature head on his shoulders. He’s always positioned well to win the ball back and has the physical attributes to be a success in the Premier League with his 6 ft 5-inch frame, energy and stamina.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if some top club is after the Norwegian in a few years as he has all the raw attributes and Brighton need to do what they can to get him into the side before someone else catches their eyes on him.

They probably should’ve tried harder to get him as Berge has already shown himself to be very capable of playing at a higher level but it’s never too late and a move in January should still be on the cards.
