Brighton opinion: Seagulls should make a move for Divock Origi

Brighton need reinforcements. The Seagulls do sit in 15th place but yet, at the same time, they are only a mere five points above the relegation zone. Things could get worse as the season comes towards its final nine odd games but at the moment, they are in decent shape.

Glenn Murray’s resurgence as he grows older has been incredible, with the former Crystal Palace and Bournemouth striker scoring 11 Premier League goals.

That makes him the Seagulls’ top scorer this season by some margin, and that’s a problem which Brighton need to solve because their second highest goal-scorer is Shane Duffy.

The centre-back has been in exceptional form this season and has five goals to his name, which is as much as both Jurgen Locadia and Florin Andone put together. That is a huge problem and one of the many reasons why Brighton have struggled this season.

But with the summer window approaching very quickly, it’s an area that Brighton must improve.

One man they must target is Premier League star Divock Origi. The 23-year-old has struggled to find a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven and has done well with the chances he has been afforded. But it wasn’t always like that for the Belgian, with Origi netting 21 times in his first two seasons with Liverpool.

Divock Origi arrived from LOSC Lille with a lot of promise and managed to convert that into Premier League form. Thanks to a splendid combination of speed, strength and a bag of tricks at his disposal, the Belgian is a deadly forward.

He may look awkward on the ball but it’s a deceitful tactic used by Origi to fool his opposition.

However, like many young players, the Belgian is very inconsistent as witnessed during his spell with Wolfsburg. Yet, that’s something which can be ironed out under the right manager and given his blend of strength and skill, it makes him a great replacement for Glenn Murray.

Unlike Murray, Origi has a long career ahead of him and while he may lack the Brighton man’s aerial prowess, the Belgian does replicate his work ethic. A tireless runner when he has played for Liverpool, Origi uses his strength and pace to great effect defensively, harassing the opponent.

Conclusion

Glenn Murray is coming to the end of his career and whether or not Brighton wants to accept that, it will happen in the near future. The likes of Jurgen Locadia and Florin Andone are not enough to replace the consistent goal-scorer and that’s a problem that Divock Origi can solve.

While the Belgian does have his weaknesses, he can be the long-term replacement that the club need.
