Why Brighton should consider a move for Emil Bohinen

According to a report by Sky Sports, Brighton and Hove Albion are considering a move for promising Norwegian youngster Emil Bohinen.

One of the top prospects of his nation, Emil has been a stand-out performer for Stabaek JF, with 4 goals and 6 assists in 28 league appearances, as claimed by Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas.

Emil, who currently plays in the Norwegian top-flight, is the son of former Nottingham Forest midfielder Lars Bohinen.

Meanwhile, Graham Potter’s Brighton are in a decent spot after some reassuring displays in recent times.

Currently placed 12th , after 13 games, the Seagulls have managed to score just 15 goals while conceding 19.

The fact that they have merely scored 15 goals is a clear indication that Brighton lack sufficient firepower in their attack. To that end, some enhancements upfront would do a world of good for Potter’s side.

Neal Maupay currently leads the top-scorers’ chart for Brighton with 4 goals in 11 appearances.

However, Brighton cannot always bank on Maupay and they need more attackers upfront to go up the charts and aim for a top-ten finish.

At present, Potter has three wingers in Leandro Trossard, Jose Izquierdo and Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

Except for Trossard (2 goals), who also plays as a centre-forward, none of the others has found the back of the net.

Izquierdo has not played a single match this season and has been ruled out, following a knee injury. And Jahanbakhsh has not played a single league game yet.

Predominantly a right midfielder, Emil, 20, can also play across the wings and would be a suitable addition to Potter’s favoured 4-4-2 formation.

The versatile youngster can slot into the midfield at times. With just three wingers in their ranks, this youngster would be capable of sharpening their attack.

Considering his versatility, he could be a long-term replacement for the likes of Davy Propper (28), loanee Aaron Mooy (29), Pascal Gross (28) and Dale Stephens (29), all of whom are nearing their 30s.

Also, Emil is a member of the Norway Under-21 side and has appeared in 9 matches with one goal to his credit.

Verdict

With most of their current crop of wingers failing to impress so far, the in-form Norwegian winger would provide Brighton with much-needed goals.
