Bournemouth have got 4 points from their 4 games in the season so far. It hasn’t been as exciting as their start from last season, however, the Cherries seem to be a streaky side and have struggled with consistency in the Premier League.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Victor Wanyama had been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and the Cherries were one of the frontrunners for his signature.
After signing Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town and adding Wanyma, Bournemouth would further strengthen their somewhat weak midfield.
Wanyama has had a couple of fantastic seasons in the Premier League, which started with his time at Southampton.
The Kenyan captain worked under Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman at Southampton and quickly made himself one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
This earned him a move to Spurs in the 2016/17 season and in his first season at the club, he was one of the best defensive midfielders along with N’Golo Kante.
However, he has suffered from injuries since and things simply haven’t gone to plan since. Even when available, he doesn’t always start anymore due to worries that he’ll pick up an injury.
Last season, he made 22 appearances in all competitions with many of his appearances coming off the bench to shore up the midfield and defence.
It seems that he’s become surplus to requirements at Spurs and this could be a great opportunity for Bournemouth to get a fantastic player when not injured.
The 28-year-old still has a few years that he can give to a side like Bournemouth. After all, the Cherries need to be worried about the concession of goals ever since their promotion to the Premier League.
Getting someone like Wanyama to sit in front of the defence will make them a very difficult opponent to face and will help them with their poor away record.
