Bournemouth signing this out of favour Tottenham star would be quite a statement by Eddie Howe

Why Bournemouth should make a move for Victor Wanyama in January

According to a report from the Sun, Victor Wanyama is on a list of Tottenham Hotspur players who will be allowed to leave the club this January. He is one of the five players who Spurs will look to move on when the transfer window opens next, after failing to sell them this summer.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is set to make changes in the New Year after his side’s poor start to the season. Victor Wanyama, who is out of favour under Pochettino, has played just 24 minutes of football in the Premier League this season.

The Kenyan is now well down the pecking order at Tottenham but he would certainly be a key player for any other club upon his arrival. That being said, Bournemouth must reignite their interest in Wanyama when the transfer market reopens in January.

Bournemouth were looking to bolster their midfield during the summer transfer window and had Wanyama one of their targets. No deal materialised and they went on to sign Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town instead.

Billing has made an immediate impact at Bournemouth, forming a strong partnership with Jefferson Lerma at the heart of the midfield. But as the season progresses, Eddie Howe would need depth to rotate in order to keep his squad for the entire season.

That’s why signing a new midfielder would make sense and Wanyama, who has loads of Premier League experience, would be a brilliant signing for the club. The Kenya international has become a frustrating figure at Tottenham over the last few years as he struggled with recurrent injuries and loss in form.

He was an all-action defensive midfielder during his debut campaign with Spurs but injuries have impacted his career and he now looks miles away from what he once was. However, he will most likely be a starter at Bournemouth, who are aiming to break into the top eight this campaign.

Now fully fit, Wanyama could make an instant impact at Bournemouth. He is a solid defensive midfielder who shields the back-four, sitting in front of them and breaking up the opposition. The former Celtic man is a tenacious player who has demonstrated his excellent ability in the middle of the park throughout his career.

He could add more power and physicality to the Cherries midfield, whilst adding competition for the likes of Philip Billing, Jefferson Lerma, Lewis Cook and Andrew Surman.

Thus, Eddie Howe must make a move for Wanyama in January as the Kenyan could be the ideal man to boost his squad.
