Why Andrea Belotti would be a massive signing for West Ham

Back in July, the Tuttosport (h/t Calciomercato) had claimed that West Ham had offered €60million for Torino striker Andrea Belotti. However, a deal didn’t go through and he has since stayed at Torino.

Andrea Belotti, 26, has been in prolific form over the past few seasons for Torino. He smashed 17 goals last term as Torino finished seventh in the Serie A table. Now, the striker is in even better form, having already bagged 13 goals in all competitions so far.

With the Italy international scoring goals for fun in Serie A, West Ham must revive their interest in Belotti when the January transfer window opens.

The Hammers broke their transfer record to sign Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt but after a superb start to life in England, the Frenchman has gone off the boil. In 16 Premier League games, Haller has bagged five goals and an assist. He has often looked isolated up front, with none of his fellow forwards providing him with sufficient service.

Manuel Pellegrini let go of the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez in the summer but didn’t adequately replace them. In addition to Haller, West Ham signed Albian Ajeti from FC Basel. Ajeti has failed to score a single goal or register an assist in seven appearances for West Ham so far.

Because of the East Londoners’ struggles in scoring goals, Pellegrini should prioritise signing a striker during the winter transfer window. And signing Andrea Belotti would be ideal.

Performing in the Serie A and doing it in the Premier League can be a different ball game. However, the fact that Belotti might be better than the current West Ham strikers cannot be ignored.

The 26-year-old’s energy and pressing from the top will suit Pellegrini’s style better. His energy, burst of speed and strength can also make the difference at the London Stadium.

A lethal finisher in front of goal, Belotti’s incredible goalscoring record at Torino has enhanced his reputation and has raised his stock in European football. 

He would be the ideal strike partner for Haller, who has been starved of service up front. In the video below, one could get a glimpse of the Italian’s style of play and the qualities he could bring to the London Stadium.

West Ham can take their team to the next level if they get the Torino forward to sign for them. There is no denying that Belotti will be a massive coup for the Irons as he will bolster their attacking options significantly heading into the second half of this Premier League campaign.
