Why A Loan Move For Danny Ings Can Work Wonders For West Bromwich Albion

Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion are set to make a move for Liverpool striker Danny Ings, in a bid to sign him on a temporary deal in January, as per reports from the Independent. 

The Baggies find themselves second from the bottom in the league, with just 15 points after twenty rounds of fixtures. The club sacked Tony Pulis and have brought in Alan Pardew as the new manager, but are yet to register a win under the former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss.  

Goals have been a major concern for the West Midlands outfit this term, as they have managed just 14 strikes in the English top flight – only bottom side Swansea City (11) have scored fewer goals than West Brom. Summer signing Jay Rodriguez started off promisingly but has failed to live up to the initial promise and has managed just two league goals from 19 games, with fellow forward Hal Robson-Kanu scoring just twice.  Meanwhile, Salomon Rondon has just three strikes to his name as well. 

Pardew is understood to be keen on addressing that issue ahead of the second half of the season and believes that a new striker will be key for their chances of survival in the Premier League, come May 2018. And he has reportedly identified Ings, a player who he had targeted back in his days in-charge of Crystal Palace, as the man to help the Baggies bounce back.  

The 25-year old was regarded as one of the brightest young forwards in England after he scored 11 Premier League goals with Burnley back in the 2014/15 season. His impressive campaign saw Liverpool snap him up from the Clarets in the subsequent summer, but since his move to Anfield, the Englishman’s progress has become stagnated due to serious injuries.   

An anterior cruciate ligament injury in his first season, followed by another serious knee injury last year that required a surgery, Ings has hardly seen any action with the Merseyside club. In his two and a half years with the Reds, Ings has played just 14 times in all competitions – only three of which happened this term and he has managed just 3 goals. The one-time capped England international has turned up for the Liverpool U23 sides on 8 occasions in the Premier League 2 and has managed a solitary goal and an assist so far.  

Ings has worked hard on his fitness and has looked in good shape this term and has shown great character and grit to come back from two serious injuries in two years. He is someone who possesses decent pace and likes to run in behind defenders and would add something different to the West Brom attacking line. And the fact that he has proven himself at this stage before when he was just 21 years of age, is a marker of his true potential.  

Recovering and finding that goal-scoring touch after such long layoffs is a difficult task, no doubt. But Ings has shown the right attitude and has shown that he has the ability to make a difference if he gets going, which is why Pardew and West Brom should look to snap him up at all costs in January.
