Dundee defender Jack Hendry is being linked with a January move to either Crystal Palace, Bournemouth or Celtic. The youngster shot to prominence after his impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership and that has attracted attention from quite a number of clubs. The player has garnered quite a bit of experience during various loan spells and has also played as a key part in the current Dundee squad.
Although Celtic are understood to be the favourites to land the talented youngster, Bournemouth and Palace are not far behind in their pursuit of the player. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the player’s profile.
Born in 1995 in Glasgow, Scotland, Hendry embarked on his football career by joining Partick Thistle in 2014. He became a regular member of the development squad and eventually made his first-team debut for the club. In 2015, he signed a new contract with the club but later that year, he chose to join Wigan Athletic. He was then sent out to Shrewsbury Town and MK Dons on subsequent loan moves and that lasted until January last year.
After that, the player moved to Dundee in July 2017 and has been with the club ever since. However, he might be tempted to move once more, with Premier League clubs registering an interest in him.
The 22-year-old Hendry is a stoic defender with a natural flair for aerial encounters. He has emerged as Dundee’s most promising prospect this season and has put in stellar performances for them on a consistent basis. He can intercept quite well to break up opposition attacks and is adept at making some well-timed blocks. The player is quite speedy when in possession and is capable of fueling some counter-attacking moves. In addition to that, Hendry is also an indirect set-piece threat.
With the likes of Bournemouth, Palace and Celtic interested in him, it remains to be seen where the player will ultimately end up. He can fit into Eddie Howe’s style of football for the Cherries and would also prove to be beneficial for the Eagles. With Scott Dann out for the foreseeable future, a young player like Hendry could work wonders for Palace.
Celtic are also in hot pursuit and there is no doubt that the youngster will be a great signing for whichever club he joins. Hence, all three clubs are likely to tempt him with attractive deals to lure him to their respective teams and it will be interesting to see how that turns out.
