After 22 years of Arsene Wenger, a new era has begun at Arsenal under Unai Emery. The Spaniard began his first pre-season by signing 5 players in the summer to strengthen the squad. And despite these signings, on the evidence of the first three Premier League games, it is clear that the Gunners need more quality in their defensive department.
According to the Sun, Arsenal have offered a trial to Igor Diveev, an 18-year-old defender from Russia. This move may not excite Arsenal fans as of now, however, Emery isn’t here to deliver immediate success at the club, is he? The manager is here to plan for the future by rebuilding the structure of the squad to match his own style of play. He is doing it the right way by investing in youth, which is probably the Arsenal way.
Igor Diveev is a Russia U20 international. He impressed in the recently concluded COTIF Youth tournament, scoring in the final against Argentina. At the club level, the defender plays for Russian club FC Ufa.
Diveev is yet to make his debut for the senior FC Ufa team but was included on the bench in the recent matches against FC Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League and against Rangers in the Europa League qualification round.
Arsenal scouted the teenager during the prestigious tournament (Mirror). Apparently, this could be a signing for the future.
In a recent interview, Diveev tried to sound as diplomatic as he could, by saying (h/t Metro),
“I read about all this on the internet before the match with Dinamo. Of course, the attention of such a club is pleasant, but I do not know anything concrete yet.”
If he joins Arsenal now, Diveev might have to play for the Arsenal reserves and get himself acquitted to the new culture. Arsenal have a rich history of producing top young talents from their academy and this could be a great opportunity for the Russian to join that academy, work hard and wait for his opportunity.
In Emery, he would get a manager who believes in promoting youth players rather than buying big superstars.

After impressing against Manchester City and Chelsea, the Frenchman is one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Gunners. This should motivate Diveev and his eagerness to do well if he arrives at the club. At Arsenal, if you are talented enough and have the right attitude, you will get your chance, regardless of the age.
