Who is Arsenal youngster Ben Cottrell? A huge talent on the rise?

According to a report by Sun, Arsenal wonderkid Ben Cottrell is tracked by big European clubs Borussia Dortmund and Marseille. The midfielder is highly-rated in north London and is tipped to be one of the future stars in football.

The 17-year-old has risen through the youth ranks in the capital, joining the Gunners youth academy at the age of nine. His phenomenal performances for the U18s has attracted interests from some of the big boys in the continent.

Cottrell, a first-year scholar, is being watched by current Bundesliga leaders Dortmund, who are very well accustomed to targeting young players and developing them into world-beaters. They have been looking at the youth academies in England to get some talented players. Jadon Sancho is a prime example.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 17-year-old Cottrell, and why Arsenal shouldn’t let him go at any cost:

Scout Report – Ben Cottrell

Age – 17

Position – Midfielder

Current Club – Arsenal (U18s)

Ben Cottrell was scouted by Arsenal when he was playing for his Sunday league team, Parkfield FC. He was invited to a training session and then a trial at the Hale End, where he was signed. The 17-year-old started his youth career playing as a full-back, however, he played a few small-sided games and was asked to feature in the midfield. And that’s where the teenager has stayed and how!

The Londoner is now an attacking midfielder capable of playing in one of the advanced central midfield positions if required. He has an acute eye for goals and key passes but he never forgets to show commitment and desire to work hard off the ball.

He made his debut for the England U16s in a game against Romania and is now a regular at the Arsenal U18s in the U18 Premier League. The 17-year-old has supplied one assist in six games so far this season.

All in all, Cottrell is a fantastic player who is destined to have a bright future. Big clubs are keeping close tabs on him, and deservedly so. But for Arsenal and their future under Unai Emery, they should keep hold of the 17-year-old and develop him into a world-beater at the Emirates.

By giving Matteo Guendouzi regular opportunities, Emery has shown that he trusts in youth if the player is fantastic.

Cottrell is a special case at the age of 17, and the Gunners should give him more chances. The reward in a few years time would be glorious.
