Two Replacements For Che Adams Who Birmingham City Can Target

If Fulham are eventually successful in their pursuit of Birmingham striker Che Adams, he’d leave a fair gap in their squad.

Not only would he leave his 7 goals from last season behind (and more you would think this term), but also he is one of precious few at the club with major potential and at 21-years-old, he would almost bring guaranteed higher transfer value than the one for which he signed.

With all that in mind, here are two potential young hot shots who Birmingham could look to snare in order to reinvest some of the £5million-plus Adams would bring in.

Jerome Sinclair (Watford)

20-year-old Sinclair is not a first XI player at Watford and they are a club quite possibly on the slide anyway. The Birmingham-born forward has already spent time on loan at the club between January and May, and would no doubt be happy to return on a permanent basis.

Sinclair is looking to find a permanent home having not made the grade at Liverpool and now finding himself down the pecking order at Vicarage Road. He doesn’t have a first team league goal to his name yet but is far too good to be sitting on the bench or playing under-23 football for long and Birmingham City looks a natural step for him.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant (Charlton Athletic)

The 19-year-old Londoner, currently at Charlton, is another real up-and-comer who has been capped by England at under-17 and under-18 level. Most of his recent experience comes from reserve team football in all honesty, though he did make 22 appearances as a very young player in the Championship.

Having scored 2 goals in 3 League Cup games back in 2015/16, Ahearne-Grant has shown fleeting glimpses of his tremendous talent and huge potential. But he is, perhaps a victim of having been thrust into first team action a tad too soon.

Given a pre-season on his back and a confidence building move to a club in the Championship, he could, if handled carefully, begin to really fulfil that potential and prove to be a bargain buy for a club like Birmingham.

Whichever way Birmingham decide to go, one thing is clear, and that is if Che Adams does move on, they simply must replace him and do it quickly. Much like Steve Bruce at neighbours Aston Villa, Harry Redknapp has a penchant for bringing in older players and especially those he may have worked with before. Even if it proves successful in the immediate term, it does little too nothing for the club’s future growth.
