Liverpool v Arsenal Report: Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool kept their 100% record at the start of this Premier League season by beating Arsenal 3-1 at Anfield.

A Mohamed Salah brace and a goal from Joel Matip was enough for the Reds to go past the Gunners. Lucas Torreira did pull one back for the away side, but it was no more than a consolation.

In a first half where Arsenal were resolute at the back and played on the break, they had two very good chances falling to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.

While the former missed his chip by an inch, the latter should have buried his one-v-one chance against a nervy Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian.

Jurgen Klopp’s men, on the other hand, kept probing without finding the incision in the final third. They eventually broke through just before half-time when Matip headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner to calm the nerves down at the Kop End.

The game shifted completely in favour of the home side around the hour mark after two sublime goals scored by Salah.

Around the 49th minute, David Luiz got caught surprised by the movement of the Egyptian in the box and blatantly tugged his shirt back to give away a cheap penalty.

Liverpool’s star man stepped and slotted his spot-kick unerringly. It became 3-0 in the 58th minute when Salah took ball on the half-turn at the halfway mark, embarrassed Luiz before tucking his effort into the corner.

The game was over by then, but Arsenal didn’t allow Liverpool to keep a clean sheet when Torreira placed his effort superbly in the 85th minute to bag a consolation.

All in all, a professional performance from Liverpool, who continue their winning start to the season with aplomb.
