West Ham vs. Tottenham: 3 Key Player Battles That Will Decide The Crucial Game

Share

Tottenham face another test of their Premier League mettle as they take on a West Ham side that has not lost in their last 11 home games. Tottenham did dispatch Slaven Bilic’s side rather easily in the reverse fixture earlier in the season but West Ham will be no pushovers as they too dream about European football next season.

Spurs could be without the services of Dele Alle, the youngster did twist his ankle during the pregame against Swansea and his absence could be vital for West Ham as they look for some revenge against the visitors.

There will be many intriguing battles strewn all across the pitch as these two London clubs face one or another and we list out three battles that could define which side has the upper hand and also where the three points might end up.

  1. Dimitri Payet vs. Ben Davies
Payet

The star for West Ham this season, everything good about the club in terms of attack has come from the French attacker. Payet might have been a costly signing at the time but he has been worth every penny for West Ham and the attacker will be looking to show his talents against one of the big teams again.

Ben Davies could be played in place of Danny Rose and it will be a tough night out for the left-back as he might have to deal with the tricky winger in Payet. If Davies can keep the French attacker quiet, Tottenham would have nullified West Ham’s best threat in attack.

2. Mark Noble vs. Eric Dier

Two midfielders who will not give each other an inch. Mark Noble has always been the almost man when it comes to making it into the England side but this time, the 28-year-old has been incredible all season for West Ham and could make a late run for the Euro 2016 squad come the end of the season.

Eric Dier is another defensive midfielder who has grown into the role this season for Tottenham. Originally a centre-back when he was brought into the team, Mauricio Pochettino has shifted him into a defensive role in midfield which has suited him perfectly and the duo taking each other on would be a great battle to keep an eye out on.

3.Angelo Ogbonna vs. Harry Kane

Harry Kane

Ogbonna might have been a Juventus player prior to his stint in London but his performances weren’t the greatest for the Old Lady. His time in West Ham has been much better as he has shown what he is capable of doing if he is played day in and day out.

Tottenham will be looking to Harry Kane to get those important goals once again against a West Ham side that will be buoyed by the home support. This is a derby but it is much more than that when it comes to Tottenham’s chances of winning the league.
