West Ham signing this 26-year-old World Cup-winning forward would have rejuvenated their gameplay

Why West Ham should’ve signed Florian Thauvin

West Ham have made a bit of a sloppy start to the season but that’s been the case for most seasons now. Last season, to their detriment, they faced Liverpool in the first game and this time, it was Manchester City. However, losing 5-0 after all the investment makes one question the manager.

They then managed to grab a point against a rejuvenated Brighton squad but with much bigger ambitions for the season, they should be doing better. One player they were linked with was in-form French international Florian Thauvin from Marseille.

The 26-year-old has Premier League experience with Newcastle United. Unfortunately, that move did not work out for him as he was still very young and Newcastle were being badly run at the time, which is the case even now.

Thauvin has been fantastic in the last two seasons and has scored 54 goals since his move to Marseille to revive his career. He has even become a regular fixture for France, lifting the World Cup with the national team.

West Ham have the makings of a fantastic forward line with the likes of Sebastien Haller, Felipe Anderson, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals.

Thauvin would have provided them with some balance on the right-hand side. They had to use Anderson on the right side against City, which isn’t his best position.

Andriy Yarmolenko is still nursing his long-term injury and is not getting any younger, which is why Thauvin would have been a better option for the time being and for the future.

West Ham, however, shouldn’t concentrate entirely on their forward line as Manuel Pellegrini needs to organize his defence first.

It’s about time that all that investment pays off and Thauvin would have almost made certain of that.
