West Ham opinion: Hammers in for Nathaniel Clyne – Good move?

According to a report in Daily Post, Premier League duo West Ham United and Bournemouth will fight to sign Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne in the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old, who is currently out on loan at the Vitality, is regularly playing under Eddie Howe and enjoying a good relationship with him (h/t Daily Post).

It’s clear that Jurgen Klopp didn’t use the Englishman much, hence, offloading him in January made sense. Now, as per the report, Liverpool are hoping to land around £15m from the fullback’s sale (h/t Daily Post).

Here’s why West Ham should beat Bournemouth for the signature of Clyne in the upcoming transfer window:

Nathaniel Clyne

Hammers could do with a quality and experienced right-back

Even though there are suggestions that Pablo Zabaleta could extend his stay at the London stadium for one more year (h/t Football London), the 34-year-old is not young and mobile enough to play for West Ham week in week out in the Premier League.

Furthermore, Ryan Fredericks, who arrived from Fulham last summer, is still finding it slightly tough to adjust to the intensity of the game in the top-flight.

Hence, it makes sense from the Hammers’ viewpoint to sign an experienced right-back, who has enough years left in him to serve the club on a long-term basis.

That being said, Nathaniel Clyne, 28, would be an ideal addition to Manuel Pellegrini’s team. The Liverpool man is a defensively-sound right-back, who also loves going forward, and is experienced enough to read the situations perfectly.

Conclusion

Everything points towards the conclusion that West Ham beating Bournemouth for the signature of Clyne would reap great rewards.
