Liverpool cruised past Huddersfield 5-0 at Anfield to go back to the top of the Premier League table. Braces from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, and a goal from Naby Keita made the evening comfortable for the Reds.
The home side opened the scoring after 15 seconds when Keita closed the ball down near the Terriers’ box and continued his run. Salah then found him with a reverse and the Guinean star then put his foot through the ball to give his side the lead.
After that, the away side played some decent football but Mane headed home the second for the hosts in the 23rd minute. Andy Robertson picked him out with a peach of a cross.
Liverpool tripled their lead at the stroke of half-time when a lobbed ball from Trent Alexander-Arnold dovetailed with the run of Salah. The Egyptian star then lobbed the Huddersfield keeper to bulge the net.
Jurgen Klopp’s men remained assertive of proceedings after the break and scored their fourth in the 66th minute when Jordan Henderson produced a wonderful cross at the back post for Mane to score his second.
The Reds made it five in the 83rd minute, when Robertson timed his run at the edge of the box and handed a goal on a plate for Salah.
All in all, it was an emphatic win for the Reds where they could cruise through. They are on top of the league, with a response from Manchester City awaited on Sunday.
