Well Done Rangers – Tying Myles Beerman To A New Contract Is A Shrewd Move That Could Work Wonders For The Club

Defender Myles Beerman has signed a new contract with Scottish Premiership side Rangers, as per reports from the Daily Record. The 19-year-old’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season but he has now inked a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

Signed from the Manchester City academy back in the summer of 2016, Beerman broke into the Gers’ senior squad towards the end of the 2016/17 campaign under then manager Pedro Caixinha and enjoyed a strong run in the team, making eight appearances between his debut in the first week of April to the end of the season.

However, injuries meant that the Maltese international wasn’t a part of the senior setup when the 2017/18 campaign started. With the club signing Declan John in the summer and captain Lee Wallace already present, Beerman fell down the pecking order at Rangers.

The youngster, however, continued to impress for the youth side and was also appointed as the captain of the side before he left the club to join Scottish Championship outfit Queen of the South FC in the January transfer window.

Having made the move to the second-tier club, Beerman struggled for game time and managed only four games for his temporary club, before his loan spell was abruptly cut short last month, casting doubts over his future with the Rangers.

However, the 19-year-old has now penned a contract and will stay put at the club for the foreseeable future. This bodes well for both the club and the player.

In his handful of appearances towards the business end of last campaign, Beerman showed that he has what it takes to succeed for the Gers’ senior side. The four-time capped Maltese international showed good pace and attacking intent down the left-hand side and while his defensive side of the game still needs some brushing up, it was evident that the player possesses a lot of promise.

While Declan John has firmly established himself as the first-choice left-back at the Ibrox after a scintillating debut campaign, Rangers could lose captain Lee Wallace at the end of the season.

The Scotland international was suspended by the club last month, following his heated argument with then manager Graeme Murty. As per reports, the club might decide to terminate his contract despite a year being left on his current deal.

If that comes to be, having Beerman ready to fill the shoes of Wallace will be a major boost for the club, especially considering how they struggled in John’s absence in recent games when they were forced to use midfielder Andy Halliday as a makeshift left-back.

Moreover, with the club appointing Steven Gerrard as the manager, Beerman will be provided with a chance to work with one of the best modern footballers to have played the game, who has done well with young players over the past year or so with the Liverpool youth sides.

The chance to work with a legend like Gerrard, coupled with the likelihood of regular playing time with the senior team could very well mean that Beerman might enjoy a breakthrough campaign for the Gers when the new season comes around.
