According to BBC, Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Real Madrid’s 22-year-old centre-back, Jesus Vallejo on a season-long loan deal.
Vallejo signed for Real Madrid in the 2015/16 season from Real Zaragoza but was immediately loaned back to continue gaining experience. In the following season, he made a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt with game time at the Bernabeu hard to come by.
It is going to be that way with Sergio Ramos still having a few years left in him. Raphael Varane still hasn’t hit the prime of his career and new signing Eder Militao needs to be accommodated in the side before he can become a mainstay.
Vallejo is at an age where he needs to be making far more appearances for his development and he can’t possibly get that at Real Madrid, with the Los Blancos being under a lot of pressure to become immediately successful after years of domestic domination from Barcelona.
Vallejo has a lot of pace and his biggest strength is defending the channels using his no-nonsense style. This would help him fit into Nuno Espirito Santo’s 3-man backline. The system requires the wing-backs to bomb forward, with the left and right-sided centre-backs expected to defend the channels, which would suit Vallejo very much.
Vallejo would add another option alongside the likes of Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Willy Boly, who have formed a fantastic defensive partnership in front of Rui Patricio.
Wolves don’t have enough depth in most positions and adding an extra centre-back is a good move by Nuno Espirito Santo. Wolves should be taking the Europa League very seriously as that is possibly the best way for the club to make it to the Champions League.

It won’t be easy to make progress on their 7th place finish without adding some squad depth and Vallejo is a fantastic addition for this season. If the project convinces him, Wolves can make the loan move permanent, as they did with Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker.
