Leicester City have made a dismal start to the new Premier League season and are not in the best shape right now. Their miserable performances saw Craig Shakespeare get sacked, following which the club appointed Claude Puel as the new manager. The former Southampton manager is yet to make a mark but the Foxes have moved up to 12th spot, which is a far cry from almost battling relegation.
The Foxes made a remarkable challenge to win the Premier League in the 2015/16 season but their power has fizzled out ever since, even though they have managed to retain most of their star players. However, with a new manager in charge, the club will look to set things right. A big part of that will be personnel management and while there is no doubt the Foxes will buy new players in January, they will also need to offload a few from their current team.
Hence, the road ahead will be tough as they try to salvage the rest of the season with Puel, which makes the January window all the more vital. Here are two players the Foxes could consider offloading.
Leicester City’s record signing from last year has struggled to establish himself in the side ever since he moved from Sporting Lisbon in August 2016. The Algeria striker has made just one Premier League start this season, with 5 brief cameos off the bench. He did prove to be successful in the Carabao Cup as he scored 4 goals against the likes of Sheffield United, Liverpool and Leeds but that will not be enough for the Foxes as they go forward.
However, since Leicester splashed quite an amount of money on him last year, they will be looking to bring in a similar amount from a sale and that might put off some potential suitors. That said, Slimani is not able to do much for himself at the club, making a winter move sound likely.
Musa is another player struggling for game time at Leicester ever since he made the move in July last year. He could be looking at pastures anew in January and Hull City are believed to be interested in a move. Since the attacker has failed to make a single appearance since the start of the season, perhaps Musa should consider taking whatever offer comes his way.
In fact, he has played more times for Nigeria than he has for Leicester. He has made just 7 starts for Leicester so far, and that is not what he signed up for. Whatever the reasons are, there seems to be no point in him staying back at the King Power stadium since it is doing nothing to take his career forward. Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Musa and a step down to Championship should do him some good.
