Why These Two Liverpool Stars Will Form A Perfect Midfield Pivot Under Klopp Next Season

Share

Jurgen Klopp is looking to strengthen his midfield this summer but with top targets Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud’s deals not progressing, Liverpool are looking for alternatives. But Liverpool already have loads of midfielders in their squads. Players like Emre Can, Joe Allen, James Milner and Jordan Henderson are already fighting for a place in central midfield. Also, the signing of Marko Grujic means the competition is now tougher.

Emre Cam was one of Liverpool’s best players last season. He was very impressive with his performances in Liverpool’s midfield last season. He had a physical presence in the centre of the park and he was exceptional in winning balls. His tackle timing was quite good and he also won aerial duels. Can managed to win the ball back for Liverpool and could propel attacks. He also linked up well with Coutinho and Firmino. But it was his defensive contribution which caught everybody’s eye. Can was always ready to support his centre backs. He also made interceptions and made some very important blocks and clearances. Can is very good but he needs a partner with whom he can stitch a very good partnership. And maybe, Joe Allen is the best option.

Joe Allen’s first few seasons at Liverpool were tough. He could hardly make it to the first team and never impressed in the few chances that he got. But last season was a bit different. The beginning was pretty much similar to every earlier season but since Klopp took over, the Allen of now took over the earlier Allen. Klopp brought about some change in him and the change was quite visible. Allen has given his 100% in every match that he has played since the turn of the year. Allen brings about an attacking threat and his defensive contributions are also worth noting. He can propel attacks and is better at attacking than defending. Allen plays key passes and he is more of an attacking midfielder rather than a central midfielder. Allen’s performances for Wales in the ongoing EURO 2016 have been very good, helping the nation reach to the semifinals.

Liverpool play with a 4-2-3-1 formation and require 2 central midfielders. Emre Can has been excellent and playing Joe Allen along with him is a very good option for Liverpool. Allen can play as the more progressive central midfielder and Can can look to help the team out defensively. Together they can form a perfect pivot for Liverpool next season.
