Ansu Fati broke a record for Barcelona in the Champions League

It was a tense final match week last night at the UEFA Champions League. With the stakes extremely high, the teams came in full throttle to secure the knockouts berth.

Italian heavyweights Inter Milan, poised in a tricky Group F standings took on Barcelona in a die or die clash.

Barcelona, although devoid of the services of Messi were in for a comfortable night, having sealed R16 qualification in their previous match week.

Young speedster Carles Perez was the first to draw blood and put the Blaugranas in front until Romelu Lukaku stepped up to give Inter a glimmer of hope with his equaliser just before half time.

The second half, however, witnessed something special. Just a minute after coming on as a substitute, teen prodigy Ansu Fati scored the winner of the night and put the final nail in the coffin of the home team.

With the goal, the Guinea-Bissau born sensation also wrote his name down in the history books. At just 17 years and 40 days, Ansu Fati became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the continental competition.

The previous record was held by Olympiacos striker Peter Ofori-Quaye at 17 years, 6 months and 7 days old.

The Ghanaian achieved the feat after scoring against Rosenborg, but his record has now been replaced by the Barça teenager who seems to be on a record-breaking spree.

Other records in Ansu’s kitty

Ansu Fati is not only the youngest Barcelona player to debut at the continental championships but also the youngest ever to score for the club.

He is also the only the second-youngest player to represent the club. The diminutive speedster was just 16 years and 298 days old when he appeared against Real Betis.

Amongst a host of other records, Fati is the youngest player to score and assist in the same Liga game making him the youngest to ever score in a competitive fixture at Camp Nou.

Following the feat last night, the Twitterati exploded as the fans started lauding the youngster for his exemplary display.
