Transfer Opinion: Why Liverpool Should Not Sell This Raw Belgian Talent At Any Cost

Share

Jurgen Klopp did say about how much fun the team would be having with Divock Origi after the German signed as the manager for Liverpool. Origi though did not have the best of time since breaking into the limelight thanks to his performances for Belgium in the World Cup in Brazil. He did end up as the youngest ever goal scorer for Belgium in a World Cup and well a move was on his way.

Origi was still a raw youngster who was growing and getting to grips with playing for big teams, he did have a great season with Lille as well and was snapped up by the English club but was sent back on loan to the Ligue 1 side.

That is when things started to go wrong for the Belgian striker, Origi was labelled as one of the most overhyped players in the French championship and was also someone that just could not get the job done.

Cue the start of this season and he was brought into the club and Brendan Rodgers but was used sparingly. Truth be told, it would have been hard for him to break into the team with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Christian Benteke as the favoured strikers, he even had to deal with the likes of Danny Ings and Mario Balotelli who were also ahead of the Belgian in the reckoning for a starting spot.

While Balo did move away on loan to Milan, Origi did get a break when Danny Ings unfortunately ended up with a long-term injury and Daniel Sturridge also kept on getting injured, missing crucial games for the Reds.

This led to Brendan Rodgers and then Jurgen Klopp playing Christian Benteke as the main striker. When Klopp could not get Liverpool working with Benteke, he did use Roberto Firmino in a striker’s role but that was not giving Liverpool the kind of threat at the top that is required in certain games.

This is where Origi showed what he can do up top when given a chance. The League Cup game against Southampton where he scored a hat-trick or even in some of the other games which have shown the calibre of striker he is. Liverpool do know that they have a player who can be moulded into one of the best.

He has the pace, the physical presence and the confidence to shoot or even link up with players as he wishes. Even in the game against Dortmund in the Europa League, it was Origi who was preferred to lead the line in both the legs and he was the player who looked the brightest more often than not.

He is willing to play with the ball and wants to get something done, a pass here, a move there and the Belgian is off to cause trouble. Liverpool do not have a player who has the same features or playing style as Origi.

The Belgian has scored nine goals in all competitions for the Reds, even though he is not the first choice striker. The Merseyside club knows that they have to be careful with the talent that is the Belgian and losing him wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do.

Christian Benteke’s future looks extremely bleak at the moment and with Danny Ings returning, Liverpool do have a great chance of creating a deadly partnership. Origi might not be the finished article at the moment but boy with Klopp at the helm, the striker could well be enjoying many more incredible nights at Anfield.
