Transfer Opinion – Expect These 3 Chelsea Superstars To Leave In The Summer Window

Share

Chelsea have had a very indifferent season this year as compared to the previous few. The start was a horrific one. So horrific that their “Special One” Jose Mourinho eventually had to leave. On 17 December 2015, after losing nine out of sixteen league games and lying 15th in the table, Mourinho was sacked.

Following that Dutchmen Guus Hiddink was hired and since he took over, Chelsea have been unbeaten in 13 straight games and are currently up to tenth in the premier league table. With such a whirlwind season you expect Roman and the board to have a closer look at the team and they are looking to make major reinforcements for the upcoming season. This will bring an end to the Chelsea career of a few players.

Let us look at 3 such players who are likely to leave in the upcoming transfer window.

John Terry

Chelsea’s leading man John Terry only signed a one-year contract extension at the end of last season and it remains to be seen if that will be renewed. The centre-back has been at the heart of a leaky Blues defence this year and was clearly disappointed with Mourinho’s sacking. While many of the Blues fan still want him to sign an extensi on and finish his career at Chelsea, many others want him to move away and have a better fruitful end to what has been an illustrious career till now. There doesn’t seem to be any intend from Chelsea to renew his contract and it looks like he will head to join the likes of former club and international team mate Frank Lampard in the MLS.

But wherever he goes, the gap left by him will be a huge one for Chelsea to fill. They will be left with to find a world class central defender, and also a long term leader and captain.

Branislav Ivanovic

Serbian full-back Branislav Ivanovic has enjoyed a successful eight years at Chelsea but has struggled for form this campaign. Even though he signed a new one year extension deal in January, still then his Stamford Bridge future will be in the hands of the next Blues boss. It also might be for the fact that Ivanovic would go for free at the end of this summer and by handing him an extension, Chelsea can actually make a profit if they decide to sell him in the summer. He seems to start almost all the matches under Hiddink. But with the Dutchman only being in charge on an interim basis, it’s hard to tell what the future holds for Ivanovic.

His performances have improved under Hiddink, but still the Serbian looks like a player who is way past his prime. The Ivanovic we all remember was one who used to tear down the right flank in attack and was very solid as a defender too. This season we hardly got to see that from him. While he has looked slow in attack, he looked very weak in defence with young wingers making him look even more slower. Only time will tell Chelsea actually sell him but they do realise that given his performances this season, the coming transfer market will be the right time to cash in on the experienced right back.

Oscar

More often than not he has been a focal point for Chelsea fans’ frustrations. While initially, Oscar had drawn comparisons to players such as Mesut Ozil and fellow Brazilian teammate Kaka due to his playmaking abilities, he hasn’t been that great this season. He has scored three goals this season, and has provided two assists. He is known to be a superb dribbler, very fluid and creative in his runs and a playmaker who has great vision and is able to deliver the precise pass to his teammates. However he failed to live up to expectations and it has been fellow Brazilian Willian who has been a star performer this season. He was a Mourinho favourite and started almost all games under him, but it’s not the same under Guus Hiddink.

There are reports that Chelsea are willing to hear offers for him and there were also reports in February that Chelsea rejected an offer of £58 million from Chinese Super League club Jiangsu Suning for Brazilian playmaker Oscar. However Hiddink denied the claims and said it was all speculation. Having already sold Ramires earlier in the year to Jiangsu, it remains a high probability that they might do the same with Oscar. Also the Brazilian will be entering in to his final year of contract at Stamford Bridge next season and it makes all the more logical for Chelsea to cash in on the Brazilian if they are not willing to offer him a new deal.
