He later had spells in Portugal with Sporting CP, Nacional and Oldhanense.
The 30-year-old’s notable achievement was his goal in the French Cup win against PSG last month.
Gerrard in his first season at Ibrox has already made good use of the transfer window with some promising signings.
Now, his objective seems to be to reinforce the Light Blues for the upcoming season.
One of the areas that remains a concern for the former Liverpool star is the defence. The Light Blues have relied on limited options like Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic throughout this season.
A signing like Mexer could ease off the Gers’ defensive woes and help Gerrard rebuild a healthier side in pursuit of the title next season.
Gerrard is going to wind up his first campaign without silverware but he is focused on the remaining games.
