Chelsea fans have to offer themselves a bit of relaxation after getting the news that Spanish midfielder is set to extend his Stamford Bridge deal. If rumours (Metro, Espn and other sources say so) are to be believed, Chelsea are going to offer Juan Mata a five-year contract this summer putting an end to the ridiculous rumours involving him with a swap deal for Manchester United‘s Wayne Rooney.
After being transferred from Valencia in 2011 for a £23.5 million fee, Mata has been a sensation for the Blues bagging Chelsea’s Player of the Season award on both the occasions surpassing all other team mates. The 25-year old Spanish midfielder has netted 32 goals and has 59 assists in the 118 games he has played for Chelsea. Giving a new contract for Mata would be the best piece of Business by the West London club this summer.
And this contract will also be beneficial for the player, as his weekly wages will increase from £70,000 to £100,000 according to The Metro.
After an initial scare on Mata’s stature upon Mourinho’s arrival, the Portuguese manager revealed that the midfielder is ‘very important’ to his plans at Chelsea, and the contract extension will put the ice on the cake before the new campaign begins.
Mata along with Torres, Oscar, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta will join the rest of the squad later this week as the Blues move their pre-season training to the United States.
In other news, Blues have confirmed to finish off yet another deal. Chilean winger Cristian Cuevas has reportedly joined the West London club on a £3m deal from O’Higgins, where he used to play. The 18-year old Chile Under-20 player has impressed the scouts with his performances during FIFA U-20 World Cup which ultimately led him to a trial at Stamford Bridge.
The youngster is also seemed to be elated after getting the opportunity to play for the Blues. Talking to the media, he said:
“Chelsea were following me for more than a year. What I wanted happened, which was joining this club.”
