Tottenham have completed the deal for one of the most talented strikers in the Dutch game, Vincent Janssen. The AZ Alkmaar star was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season as he bagged 27 goals in the league camping and notched in four more in other competitions for the Dutch side.
The Premier League club have been in the market for a striker to support or even play in place of Harry Kane, in case the English star has to rest. The London club would also need to have another top striker in the team due to the fact that they would be playing in the Champions League next season.
Janssen is a good player to have in the side but he isn’t the perfect striker in the world. Tottenham might have someone who can score a ton of goals but exactly what does he bring to the team and what would the team lack with him in the side?
The one thing that does stand out for most Tottenham players in their work ethic displayed by each player. The side might not have a lot of start quality but that is more than made up by the amount of running and energy each player puts out.
It shouldn’t be a surprise to know that Vincent Janssen is just the kind of player that Mauricio Pochettino would want in his side as he is someone who runs a lot for his side and often defends from the front.
He is also extremely good with both feet, so shooting on target should not be a problem for the 22-year-old striker. It gives him an unpredictability as to which foot he can use to score a goal or two and that would keep defences guessing next season as well, if he does join Tottenham.
Janssen is also extremely quick and is built well, so that should mean he can be a great replacement for Harry Kane also, should the Englishman have to sit out a few games due to injury or fatigue.
While Janssen does give Tottenham a wealth of options in terms of playing him with Kane, there are a few issues with his game which could reduce his output in the first season. He isn’t the greatest shooter from outside the box and the biggest worry would be the fact that he is often caught offside.
Janssen might be great in the box but put him outside and he would struggle to build many attacks. His first touch isn’t the greatest either and more often than not he does lose the ball. The need to keep him in and around the box is imperative if Tottenham are to do well next season and Janssen can lead them to glory, only if he is played in the right position.
