Tottenham: Three Replacements For Injured Christian Eriksen – The Answer Lies Within

Share

Tottenham creative midfielder and Danish sensation Christian Eriksen is set to miss out three months through injury picked up on an International Friendly. Eriksen was on the wrong end of a ferocious challenge during Denmark’s friendly against Norway and major tabloids have claimed that Spurs is set to miss their number ten for a long time span of three months. While initially it was though that Eriksen would miss out only for two weeks, it has now been confirmed that Eriksen is certain to be out for three months. While this must a setback for Andre Villas Boas’ side who have hardly got their act together this campaign, we here at Soccersouls decided to provide three ways Tottenham can manage without Eriksen.

More Game time for Erik Lamela:

Erik Lamela

If this was the way the former Roma man wanted to grab his opportunity, there he has right on the plate. With Eriksen now injured, we are sure that Villas Boas is sure to play his Summer signing and give him first  start come this weekend. Well, Eriksen’s void as a number ten is too tough to replace, given the Dane has suited remarkably in the much more pacy Premier League, playing Lamela alongside Townsend and Chadli would certainly be an experiment Villas Boas has to risk if Tottenham’s top four aspirations is ascertained. There is no doubt that Lamela is brilliant on the right and loves to dart inside much like Bale, but playing in the CAM role will perhaps be the focal point which perhaps Lamela needs to spark an inspiration in the otherwise lifeless White Hart Lane outfit till now in this season.

Lewis Holtby:

Lewis Holtby

Much like Lamela, it has been almost the same case for former Schalke man Lewis Holtby. The promising German has spent most of his time in the sidelines since his Winter Transfer move to Spurs. At Schalke, he was touted as the next big thing in German football, however less game time and lack of proper fitness meant his dazzling talent was curtailed to a significant extent. Now with Eriksen out for a considerable amount of time, it has to be one of the likes of Holtby or Lamela, who should be willing to walk that extra mile to glorify as far as Tottenham’s aspirations of a Champions League place is concerned.

A change of Formation maybe:

These are not the best times for the White Hart faithful certainly. With the whooping amount of money they obtained from the sale of Gareth Bale,, it wouldn’t be harsh if the set of fans demanded more from their team. With very little creativity, a very slow build up and an equal number of misspasses escalating every game, what about a change of formation for AVB? Former  Tottenham midfielder Chris Waddle has told boss Andre Villas-Boas he needs to play Roberto Soldado and Jermain Defoe together if the club are to challenge for the Premier League title. Switching to a 4-4-2 with Paulinho and Sandro  and Townsend alongside Lamela on the flanks is surely a test to any opposition. However will AVB budge?

Update: Latest report  from Independent suggest that  Eriksen’s injury is not as serious as thought and the spurs’ no 10 may return sooner than expected.
