Tottenham Opinion: Why should Spurs sign Dani Olmo?

According to a report from Metro, Tottenham have turned out to be the frontrunners in the race to sign Dinamo Zagreb talent Dani Olmo.

The Spaniard has gotten widespread recognition in recent times, playing a pivotal role as Spain clinched the Euro U21 title. Olmo is also wanted by Manchester United and his former club FC Barcelona (h/t Metro).

Olmo’s staggering progress in Croatian League

The 21-year-old has been an integral part for Dinamo Zagreb over the past two seasons, adding up 21 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

Besides helping his side dominate Croatia’s top-flight, the former La Masia man also bagged a cluster of individual awards. In the recently concluded tournament, Olmo showed real class, scoring in both the semi-finals and finals.

A playmaker by trade, the Spaniard is also good at playing on the wings.

Spurs need to find a quality playmaker

The North London outfit currently needs to deal with the mountainous task of replacing Christian Eriksen. The Danish playmaker, who has been a key member for Mauricio Pochettino, is planning for a future away from London, with Real Madrid interested in his services (h/t Evening Standard).

By and large, the 27-year-old has become one of the most recognizable midfielders of his generation under the Argentine manager and finding a successor is nothing short of a tedious task.

Yet, Olmo encompasses all the attributes needed to be a world-class playmaker and a move to Spurs would allow him to get enough spotlight.

The Spaniard‘s attributes comprise of strong dribbling skills, as well as a knack for short and long passes. He averaged 2 key passes per game in the U21 competition. Furthermore, his inclination in the attacking third was also quite evident with an average of 4 attempted shots per game.

Final Verdict

Pochettino has finally ended the long-running transfer drought with back-to-back acquisitions of Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele.

Having already made history by reaching the Champions League final the last term, the Argentine must eye a shot at the Premier League title race.

In order to achieve such rigorous tasks, Spurs should consider a move for Olmo, who is on the cusp of becoming an established playmaker.
