According to a report from the Express, Tottenham are targeting Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Diogo Jota in a shock summer swoop. It is said that the club have been keeping close eyes on the youngster with owner Daniel Levy supposedly willing to shell out the cash.
Diogo Jota is a 22-year-old Portuguese international was was signed on a permanent basis at the start of the current season after pulling off some excellent displays in the Championship last season while on loan from former club Atletico Madrid.
He was developed at the Gondomar academy before he eventually moved on to Pacos Ferreira in 2013 as a teenager. After impressing scouts sent by the Spanish giants, he was signed by Diego Simeone in the summer of 2017.
But the young Premier League star never played a game for the Atleti as he was sent out on loan to Porto a couple of months after he was signed. Upon his return, he was immediately contacted by Wolves who secured a loan deal for him later that summer.
This season though, he has been an absolute revelation alongside Raul Jimenez leading the Wolverhampton Wanderers frontline. Like every single player in that talented Wolves team, Jota has really come to the fore on multiple occasions.
His movement down the right-side of the Wolves attack has been exceptional while he has also scored some crucial goals in key games. His finishing has been excellent whenever called upon and his ability to read play and create opportunities for his teammates have also stood out.
He has scored 6 goals and also notched up 4 assists from his 25 games in the Premier League this season while he has participated in more than a quarter of the goals that they have scored all season. This stat highlights his ability as a forward and is something that will tempt potential suitors.
As suggested by the Express, Diogo Jota has been in Tottenham’s radar for a while now and this season could finally be when they wrap up the deal.
His arrival would certainly come as a massive boost to a Tottenham side who were given a strong reality check which came as a flurry of injuries earlier in the season.
Jota’s versatility is what makes him the best option for Spurs as he can play up-front as the striker just as well as he can down the flanks. The injury to Harry Kane saw Fernando Llorente being utilised as the target man and that experiment showed negative results.

Jota is the kind of player who can beat a man and start an attack but can also be in the right play at the right time inside the box to score important goals.
He is a proper utility forward and his ability can’t be questioned considering the season he’s having and that’s why Spurs must sign him in the summer.
