Why Donny van de Beek would be a brilliant signing for Tottenham

According to a report from The Sport, Juventus are interested in signing Tottenham star Christian Eriksen this summer.

The Denmark international, 27, is out of contract with Spurs next summer, so Daniel Levy will surely be tempted to cash in on him now, rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

Eriksen has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid, but the report claims Juventus have made the first contact with Tottenham.

Eriksen has been a top performer for Spurs since joining the club from Ajax in the summer of 2013 and it’ll be a big blow for Mauricio Pochettino’s side if he departs this summer, as they would be losing one of their key players with little time to negotiate the purchase of a suitable replacement.

With the Danish midfielder reluctant to commit his future at the club, however, it might just be in Spurs’ best interest to part ways with the 27-year-old.

As per the Sun, Tottenham are one among the host of European clubs interested in signing Ajax midfield ace Donny van de Beek, whose stock has skyrocketed on the back of a truly wonderful campaign with the Eredivisie giants.

He featured 57 times for Ajax this past season, bagging an impressive return of 17 goals and 13 assists in the process, understandably becoming a hot property in the summer transfer window.

With just a few days left for the transfer window to slam shut, Spurs must do everything within their powers to sign Donny van de Beek.

With Eriksen set to depart, Victor Wanyama enduring another injury-hit campaign and Eric Dier experiencing perhaps his worst ever season in north London, Pochettino needs to refresh his options in the midfield.

He has already replaced Mousa Dembele with Tanguy and the addition of Van de Beek would further bolster Spurs’ midfield options.

A technically-gifted and tactically versatile midfielder, Van de Beek enjoys the responsibility of setting the tempo and rhythm of play. Always willing to receive the ball, the Netherlands international possesses the attribute to find space, even in the most crowded spaces and create opportunities for his teammates.

The 22-year-old’s creativity and guile in the middle of the park would be a real asset for Tottenham, whilst his perfectly timed runs into the opposition’s penalty box would give them a different flavour in the final third.

All in all, Van de Beek has all the qualities to thrive in the Premier League and in Pochettino’s pressing system at Tottenham.

Verdict

Van de Beek is available for just £45 million this summer, and in today’s day and age, that would represent excellent value for money for Spurs. And if Pochettino manages to bring him to north London, Spurs could have a real chance of challenging for the title next season.
