Tottenham revisiting a move to sign this fiery left-back from Premier League rivals would solve a lot of their issues

Why Tottenham should revisit a move for Lucas Digne

Tottenham’s season hasn’t started off as well as they would have expected.

Spurs haven’t looked great in the four games they have played so far and their loss to Newcastle, in particular, laid bare their lack of consistency.

Of course, it is still early in the season but Tottenham look out of sorts in the attacking third.

Tottenham need their full-backs to do well but Danny Rose and Kyle Walker-Peters haven’t been up to the mark this season.

Spurs were linked with Lucas Digne in the summer (h/t Mirror) and a move for the Frenchman could be great for the club.

Pushing another player into the attack

Digne was one of the most impressive players for Marco Silva last season despite Everton’s early struggles.

The former Barcelona left-back is one of the best crossers in the Premier League and has started this campaign well too.

Digne already has a goal and an assist this season and more importantly, he is one of the best attacking full-backs in the league.

The Frenchman is still 26 and is younger than Tottenham’s first-choice defender in the position, Danny Rose.

Tottenham were willing to let Rose leave in the summer and even allowed him to stay back and try to finalise an exit during their Asia tour.

Spurs do have other options to play in this position with Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon in the ranks.

Davies signed a new deal with the club in the summer, however, Sessegnon could be allowed to play in the attacking third.

The former Fulham star was great in the attacking role and could provide Mauricio Pochettino with another option in the final third.

Verdict

The Mirror adds that Pochettino wanted Digne before he joined Everton, and it would be great for last season’s Champions League finalists to return for the Frenchman.

Digne would be an upgrade on all the left-backs in the current Tottenham side and could improve under the management of Pochettino.
