Why Pochettino Should Avoid The Reunion With This £27M Rated Manchester United Defender

Mauricio Pochettino will hope that his Tottenham Hotspur side can stay close to Chelsea in the race to the top of the table. But he will know that he will have to plan for the next season if his team has to improve next season. This has seen him get linked with a number of players recently and one player who is now extensively linked with a move to the club in the summer is Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw. The former Southampton man was the next best thing in English football not so long ago, but constant injuries and lack of form have seen the £27milliion rated youngster fall out of favor under current manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho recently revealed that he does not trust Luke Shaw in his first team yet and reports have suggested that the 21-year old has decide to move on. Tottenham are one of the clubs who have been linked with the player.  However, there are many reasons why Spurs should avoid spending on the defender this summer.

At just 21, it would be too harsh to say Luke Shaw is injury prone but during his time at St Mary’s and Old Trafford, Shaw has had a number of injuries, which might be a sign of things to come. An attacking full-back, who loves to spend more time in the attacking areas, Shaw is a disciplined defender who hardly mistimes a tackle. He is an excellent reader of the game, a quality that allows him to be one step ahead of his opponents and at his age, he is a player who is tailor-made for the revolution at White Hart Lane.

However, having made less than 30 appearances in the Premier League since his move to the Old Trafford back in 2014, he is not in the greatest shape to move into the first team at Tottenham. Pochettino’s first choice left-back Danny Rose is not quitting anytime soon and Ben Davies has been sparkling at times too, despite not being consistent enough. The manager is trying to build a team for the long term and might be attracted to add Shaw to his lineup but at 21, he is relatively untested at the highest level and his failure with Manchester United also shows that he is not ready for the biggest stage.

Shaw is a potential superstar who is surely going to go on and represent his country at the highest level but his move to Old Trafford may have come a bit too early in his career. He is better of playing at a club that are not immediately challenging for the title which will give him time to settle in and also reduce the pressure. Shaw needs such an environment to thrive but the Lane will be anything but that.

So Tottenham may well be making a mistake if they spend on the English full-back this summer.
